Common, early pregnancy symptoms are lateness in (absence of) an expected menstrual period, enlargement and tenderness of the breasts, and additional unexpected changes in personality and normal behavior.
These symptoms are due to hormonal changes in the body as a result of the fertilized egg implanting in the uterine wall and the beginning of the formation of the placenta.
Early Pregnancy symptoms:
- absence of expected menstrual period
- appetite changes
- enlarged breasts
- tenderness of the breasts
- increased frequency of urination
It is these changes in the normal level of hormones that are the basis of all pregnancy testing kits available at a pharmacy. They are typically very accurate when used properly and as directed.
Testing should be repeated within several days of each other. Confirmation of pregnancy can be made by a doctor using a standard blood test.
Upon confirming pregnancy the dating process process is typically carried out to determine the future course of the pregnancy and the expected delivery date.
